Germany have been handed a new injury headache with the news that Shalke’s Heiko Westermann will miss the tournament due to a foot injury.
The defender broke a bone in his foot during Germany’s 3-0 win over Hungary in Budapest on Saturday.
He will join Michael Ballack, Rene Adler, Simon Rolfes and Christian Trasch who have all been ruled out of the World Cup in South Africa, which kicks off in less than two weeks.
Germany will go up against Australia, Ghana and Serbia in Group D.
