Inter Milan’s Samuel Eto’o has threatened to walk out on his national side ahead of the World Cup after being criticised by his countryman, former Cameroon star Roger Milla.

Milla, a leading light for his country during the 1990 World Cup, was critical of Eto’o’s recent performances for Cameroon and his comments prompted an angry reaction from Eto’o.

In a tantrum similar to that which threw Ireland’s World Cup preperations into chaos ahead of the 2002 tournament, the striker told France’s Canal Plus Sport that he may withdraw from the Cameroon team and pass up the chance to play in South Africa.

“Is it worth me going to the World Cup?” Eto’o said. “I still have a few days to think about it but I will see if my participation is important because I don’t need this in my career.”
