Victor Anichebe has been dropped from Nigerian coach Lars Lagerback’s World Cup squad announced today.
The Everton striker’s omission means he will sit out the tournament alongside Real Zaragoza striker Ike Uche, the Super Eagles’ top goalscorer in qualifying.
Premiership regulars Joseph Yobo (Everton), age-defying Nwankwo Kanu (Portsmouth) and John Mikel Obi made coach Lagerbacks cut, despite the latter only joining his teammates Friday due to an on-going knee injury.
Nigeria begins their World Cup campaign against Argentina in Johnnesburg on June 12th. Their Group B neighbours are Greece and South Korea.
