Met Éireann has also said there will be “surface water flooding”.
Earlier on Saturday (9 September), JOE wrote about Ireland’s current Indian summer being set to come to an abrupt end, something which has been further cemented by Met Éireann’s latest weather warnings.
The Irish meteorological service has published four new Status Yellow thunderstorm warnings which apply to 23 counties in the Republic of Ireland.
These follow the UK Met Office having already issued the same type of alert for all of Northern Ireland.
The first of Met Éireann’s four thunderstorm warnings is already in effect and applies to Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow.
The second is also currently in effect and impacts Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Meath, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford and Westmeath.
Both are valid until 9pm and read: “Localised thunderstorms this evening and early tonight with the possibility of spot flooding and some disruption.”

“Frequent lightning”
The next of the weather warnings will be in effect from 6am on Sunday until midnight and applies to Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow.
As for the fourth alert, it will be valid from midday until midnight on Sunday and affects Cavan, Clare, Galway, Leitrim, Monaghan, Longford, Louth, Meath, Roscommon, Offaly and Westmeath.

Both of these warnings state: “Localised thunderstorms/slow-moving heavy downpours giving frequent lightning and surface water flooding.”
The UK Met Office’s alert for all of Northern Ireland will be in effect from 2pm until midnight on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Met Éireann’s forecast for next week reads: “Feeling cooler… Though there will be dry and sunny spells at times, rain or showers will affect the country each day.”
