Hooker Jerry Flannery has been left at home to nurse a calf injury while the Ireland squad jet off to New Zealand for their summer tour.
Flannery, a second half replacement in the six-point defeat to the Barbarians last night, sustained the injury only minutes before the final whistle.
Leinster’s Fergus McFadden, who gained his first senior international appearance in Thomond Park last night, has also been ruled out of the tour with a fractured jaw. The centre was replaced at half-time against the Baa-Baas and he will now need surgery which will keep him out of action for up to eight weeks.
Shane Horgan was a late exclusion from the Ireland team last night with a stomach complaint and he too has remained at home for medical examinations. It is hoped that he may join up with the squad at some stage later this week.
The Ireland squad departed Shannon Airport this morning on a flight bound for Auckland. Declan Kidney’s squad will play the All Blacks next Saturday in the first game of the tour in New Plymouth.
