“Have you nothing better to do, Garda?”

Gardaí have highlighted a ridiculous parking offence made by a motorist on an Irish road this week as the driver was slapped with a huge fine.

Taking to Twitter/X, Gardaí showed a picture of a car parked across a disabled parking space, saying that the driver was given a €150 fine.

Those who are caught illegally parking in a disabled space without a valid card on show will be fined €150, which can increase to €225 if not paid within 28 days.

Gardaí posted a picture of the vehicle in question on Twitter saying: “‘Ah sure I’d have moved if someone needed the spot. Have you nothing better to do, Garda?’

“We’d have a bit less to do if people didn’t park in disabled parking bays without a permit. This driver was issued a €150 fine.”

Many replied to the post agreeing with the Gardaí, with some saying that the fine should be increased for those caught parking in disabled spots without a valid card.

“Fines need to be doubled for disabled bay parking…” said one commenter.

Another said: “The car should have been towed away and a 1000 euro fine to recover it.”

A third person said: “Greater deterrents and heavier fines need to be introduced to combat illegal parking in disabled bays. Witnessing this on a daily basis, mostly unchecked. Well Done.”
