I’m fairly short in height and would be well built and like to follow trends in style but nothing seems to work great on me. White Tee’s and jeans are about it. Any ideas for shorter lads? Sean Co. Fermanagh

Our columnist, broadcaster and stylist Darren Kennedy, gives his advice…

Hi Sean, being short and well built should not deter you from following current trends in menswear. You’re top priorty however should be well-cut clothes with an excellent fit. The right fit for your build should be top of your list rather than being completely trend driven, the same goes for any man of any shape/size.

Clothes that are too big will swamp you and make you look shorter, while wearing clothes that are too tight is simply not a good look. For shorter guys, I advise caution when it comes to the current trend for wearing chinos rolled up to the ankle as this could make your legs appear shorter than they actually are.

As it’s summer, also be careful of three quarter length shorts, you don’t want to look like you’ve practically no legs. I’d recommend wearing nothing longer than half length shorts. While we’re on the topic of shorts, I’d also like to say for the record, please avoid budgie smugglers unless you’ve quite clearly got the physique for it!
