The Ulster Council has spoken of its decision to force London to face off against Down in the provincial hurling semi-final the day after playing Armagh.
The Exiles will take to the field in Crossmaglen in the Nicky Rackard Cup on Saturday. They will then be given just 24-hours rest before going up against Down in Casement Park on Sunday.
The Ulster Council has defended its role in the debacle saying that they had arranged their provincial fixtures prior to the Cup games.
London (Pictured after a previous Nicky Rackard Cup Final) are now debating whether to withdraw from the Ulster championship as a result of the decision.
Ulster Council chairman Aogan Farrell told the Irish Independent, “We’re delighted to have London in our championship and we’re disappointed that they find themselves in this position, but it’s not of our making.â€
He continued, “Out of respect to our counties, we have to stick with the dates as arranged several months ago, because it’s a crowded schedule at this time of year.”
“We cannot understand why the Nicky Rackard Cup games weren’t fixed to avoid this. Our fixtures were made first.”
