The vuvuzela looks like it is here to stay after Fifa President Sepp Blatter defended the noisy instrument on Twitter.
The chairman of the tournament’s South African organising committee gave hope to fans whose enjoyment of the games had been dented by the buzzing noise generated by thousands of the horns when he said he would consider a ban if one was thrown onto a pitch.
However, Blatter appears to have ended any hopes that the monotone instruments might be done away with by tweeting, “I don’t see banning the music traditions of fans in their own country. Would you want to see a ban on the fan traditions in your country?”
He continued, “I have always said that Africa has a different rhythm, a different sound.â€
