The Front Pages

The ousting of Enda Kenny is gathering pace and every national paper in the land is spreading it across their front pages like wildfire.

Here’s the general jest of the main headlines:

“FG in Meltdown” – the Irish Examiner simply displays.

“Fine Gael frontbench meeting key to Kenny’s survival” – reads the Irish Times.

“Furious rebels will blitz Kenny for sacking Bruton” – the Irish Independent leads.

The Irish political scene has been made interesting for the uninterested in the past few days. The latest development in the threat to Enda Kenny’s reign as leader of Fine Gael has come from the Mayo man himself.

Just when you thought the ball was in Richard Bruton’s court, Kenny has fired a rocket right down the line by sacking the deputy leader in the hope of fending off an upheaval from members of the party.

26 party members publicly backed Enda the boy yesterday however a meeting of the frontbench this morning will give a clearer indication of the current FG leader’s chances of remaining at the helm. A vote is expected to take place tomorrow to decide who’s the fairest of them all after Mr Kenny called for a full parliamentary party meeting.
