Ulster Rugby has announced that number 8 Xavier Rush will not be joining the club for next season – despite having signed for the province earlier this year.
Former All Black Rush, who captained the Barbarians against Ireland earlier this month, had been expected to join Ulster having agreed a two-year deal.
However, a statement from Ravenhill today admitted that the move had now fallen through for personal reasons.
The statement read: “Ulster Rugby can today confirm that Xavier Rush will not be joining the club next season. Rush, who had signed a two-year deal in February to play for Ulster, recently requested that, for personal reasons, he did not wish to leave Cardiff.
“Ulster Rugby have agreed to release Xavier Rush from his contract, allowing him to recommit as a Cardiff Blues player.â€
On the plus side, Ulster have announced the arrival of South African international back-row forward Pedrie Wannenburg on a two-year deal.
