It’s quesadilla-eating, tequila-drinking, sombrero-wearing time in the Power household tonight as Paddy gets ready to shout for Mexico against the cheatin’ French.

Ah, that’s a little better. Like finally making it to the toilet after waiting in line for an hour with a bladder full of beer, yesterday’s entertaining action was some sweet relief following a serious lack of action in the first week in South Africa.

My team, Chile, hammered Honduras 1-0, Spain’s backers in the outright market have started sweating a little after they did an Arsenal against the plucky Swiss and the second round of games began with a near knockout blow for the hosts. Did someone say half empty stadiums, a lack of World Cup pedigree and what the hell happened to Diego Forlan at Old Trafford? No, maybe it was just me then.

Before moving on to today’s games I would like to point out that my other team in this tournament is obviously whoever France is playing. The biggest disappointment of the tournament so far for me was Thierry Henry not starting against Uruguay. I was all psyched up for 90 minutes of hearty booing. It’s quesadillas for dinner in the Power household tonight.

In hindsight, Argentina put in one of the better performances of the first round of games and with Maxi Rodriguez coming on for the ageing Veron I think they’re going to improve considerably against South Korea. Messi certainly looked up for it against Nigeria and I fancy him to get on the scoresheet in this one. He’s even money to score anytime and considering he should have scored two or three in the first game, that has to be worth a look. South Korea will work hard but their lack of top class experience at the back could prove fatal if Argentina start to click up front. 4-0 at 20/1 might be a little optimistic but it’s World Cup time, so why the hell not?

Greece look a team without much spirit and a Greece team without spirit is like an Aston Kutcher movie: painful to watch, devoid of any entertainment and a waste of everyone’s time. Seriously did you see Spread? Sheesh… Anyway, they don’t have the individual ability to win games they shouldn’t and having used up all their luck winning Euro 2004, it’s hard to see them making much of an impression in this tournament. Nigeria 1-0 at 4/1 for me.

Gerardo Torrado’s (pictured right) Mexico should have been three goals up after the first half hour against South Africa and I, like the rest of Ireland, will be hoping they can add some end product to their play tonight. I’m sticking to my pre-tournament prediction that France won’t even make it out of the group. If they lose against Mexico tonight, like I genuinely think they will, I’ll be back on here tomorrow for a good aul gloat. If they win, I won’t be mentioning it all. My blog, my rules. Mexico to win 10-0..okay 2-1 at 11/1 might be a little more realistic. Venido en México!!!
