It’s all over. Enda Kenny is the winner, maybe not by a knockout but he has just edged it on points.

Enda and Richard Bruton are best pals again after a dog-fight for the Fine Gael leadership. Isn’t it amazing how fickle the world of politics is?

Naturally, the national broadsheets hammer out the story, many with a similar snap as above showing the lads back on good terms.

Enda won the vote at yesterday’s Fine Gael parliamentary party meeting but the shrewd Mayo man will not disclose the winning margin as he bids to cap the damage on the party’s reputation.

The Irish Independent outlines two big tasks which will be undertaken by Mr Kenny in the coming days. “Triumphant FG leader will banish key rebels…But door is left open for return of rival Bruton.”

Going forward, Mr Kenny will find it inextricably difficult without the aid of Mr Bruton by his side but a frontbench reshuffle is inevitable.

The Irish Examiner prints some of Mr Kenny’s comments from outside the Dail yesterday after his victory. The FG leader intends to patch things up in the party, “My record has been one of proven inclusiveness in binding up wounds before; I intend to do that again.”

In other news, the Irish Times runs a front page story concerning the arrival of a princess to Ireland.

Princess Mako, granddaughter of Japan’s reigning emperor, will attend university in Dublin this summer.

The princess will study English at UCD during July and August and will be expected to mingle with other students. Princess Mako has lived a sheltered life from the media so if you see a Japanese girl surrounded by bodyguards, necking pints of Guinness and singing ‘Molly Malone’, you have your girl.
