It’s June, and with Wimbledon season upon us we’ve been reminded that, unlike Adi Dassler or Puma Pumasson (ok, we made that up), Fred Perry was a fine sportsman first, and became a revered menswear brand second.
With a deep archive of classic styles and designs to derive inspiration, the current Fred Perry Spring Summer 2010 Collection hits Irish stores, showcasing a fashion-forward approach to the brand’s rich tennis heritage.
This summer’s Authentics collection remains faithful to brand staples such as the M12 pique polo and Harrington jacket, but refreshes typical Fred Perry looks with the label’s “new wave nostalgia†mood. Here the designers have mixed in everything from tartans, Madras checks, Argyles and cable knit cricket sweaters to provide timeless, though very current, preppy ensembles.
For SS10 we’ve got Oxford piques, summer weight poplins and slim-leg chinos, with classic tennis colour, fluro highlights and sportswear references. Trims are sure to pop out in citron, blue atoll and rosada pink whilst the fluro touches are a nod to graphics obsessed mid-90s youth culture.
Finally, don’t forget special edition Fred Perry shirts are available to celebrate the 2010 World Cup (pictured below). The polo shirts featuring the national colours of nine of the world’s greatest football nations and were featured in a recent JOE piece showcasing football fashions.
