Dustin Johnson opened up a three-stroke lead at the top of the US Open leaderboard – but Tiger Woods is just five shots back in third place going into Sunday’s final round.
Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell had led by two after the second round and remains in contention in second place following a level-par third round 71.
Johnson looks in command after his 66, which included five birdies and an eagle two at the 331-yard fourth, left him three clear at the top.
However, if he has any mental fragility it is likely to be exposed by the proximity of Woods, who enjoyed a 66 of his own on Saturday.
Johnson and McDowell tee off at 10.15pm Irish time, ten minutes after Woods and France’s Gregory Havret get their final round under way.
