Graeme McDowell has added to his Welsh Open title from two weeks ago by winning his first major title on Sunday.
McDowell put in a resilient final round display at a windswept Pebble Beach Golf Links to win the US Open by just one shot.
McDowell is the first European to win the tournament in 40 years after the 30-year-old Irishman held his nerve to par the final hole and claim his first major title.
A European has not won the title since Briton Tony Jacklin won the 1970 tournament at Hazeltine.
“It’s so difficult to win a golf tournament, let alone a major,†McDowell said after lifting the trophy.
Frenchman Gregory Havret came closest to McDowell. Both players bogeyed the 17th but Havret missed a birdie putt on the 18th green while McDowell made par with a two-putt.
McDowell finished on three-over-par for the day and managed a level total of 284.
