France coach Raymond Domenech has indicated that some of his established stars may not take part in Wednesday’s final Group A match against hosts South Africa.

The French are on the verge of an ignominious exit from the tournament after two dire performances to date, following an opening night 0-0 draw with Uruguay with a 2-0 defeat to Mexico.

If matters on the field were not bad enough they have been plunged into crisis off it, with Nicolas Anelka sent home for abusing Domenech at half-time against Mexico, fitness trainer Robert Duverne and Patrice Evra engaging in a public training-ground bust-up which required Domenech’s intervention and Jean-Louis Valentin resigning from his position as team director.

And now it has turned out that some players may not make themselves available for selection for this afternoon’s game against the South Africans.

When asked whether a boycott by certain players could occur, he responded, “It is a possibility.”
