Irish professional cyclist Philip Deignan has missed out on a place in the Cervélo TestTeam for next month’s Tour de France.
Deignan, who won a stage at the Tour of Spain last year, was included on a short-list of 12 for cycling’s biggest event ahead of last week’s Tour de Suisse.
However, Cervélo TestTeam has announced its nine-strong line-up and back-up rider, and the Donegal native has failed to make the cut.
Former Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre has been passed fit to take his place and the Spaniard will join last year’s green jersey winner Thor Hushovd as joint team captain.
Britain’s Jeremy Hunt is included in the team with another Briton, Daniel Lloyd, named as back-up.
