A Fianna Fáil TD has been booted out of the parliamentary party for voting against the Government in the final division on the Wildlife (Amendment) Bill 2010.

“Government survives vote on hunt Bill but FF TD loses whip”, reads the main headline on the Irish Times front page.

Mattie McGrath (pictured above right) voted against the ban on stag hunting and, as a result, got his marching orders from Fianna Fáil yesterday evening.

The Irish Independent and Irish Examiner both cover the biggest Irish political news story of the day.

Fianna Fáil backbencher Christy O’Sullivan abstained from the vote and he must come up with answers for his no-show to save his skin.

The Government marginally won the vote, 75 votes to72.  It will ban the Ward Union Hunt in Meath and north county Dublin.

Meanwhile, the Indo has published a picture of Anna Chapman. A fine looking lady who is one of 11 people accused of spying for Russia. They were arrested in the US yesterday.

Officials fear a number of Irish passports may have been used in the alleged spy ring.
