30/06 JOE’s Daily Double

With the World Cup on the back burner for a couple of days, Andy Murray and the last race of the day at Fairyhouse make up today's Daily Double.

With the World Cup taking a break for a couple of days, we’re turning our attention to Wimbledon for the first part of today’s Daily Double and for the second day in succession, we’re leaving it late with our racing tip, the last on the evening card at Fairyhouse.

It’s quarter final time at Wimbledon and Murray-mania is beginning to reach fever pitch. Everyone’s favourite Brit/Scot (depending on which paper you read), Andy Murray has been in imperious form so far at the All-England club and is starting to look like he might be able to match the massive expectations that have been heaped on his quite scrawny shoulders.

Murray hasn’t dropped a set so far in the tournament, but we reckon that’s about to change in today’s meeting with the barrel-chested Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Tenth seed Tsonga is an erratic performer at best, but on his day he can match it with the best of them, especially when he gets his powerful service game going.

Murray leads 2-1 in head to heads between the pair, but significantly, Tsonga’s victory was at the 2008 Australian open, the only time they have met in a grand slam tournament. We still fancy Murray to prevail on centre court today, but reckon that Tsonga will give him a fright before the Scot advances to an inevitable defeat to Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.

Murray to defeat Tsonga in five sets is available at the tempting price of 5/1.

It will be nearly dark at Fairyhouse by the time our horse racing tip gets out of the blocks, but we think she’s worth the wait.

Dearest Girl shaped up well at Leopardstown last time out, staying on well into third behind a useful looking type in Zarebiya. Charles O Brien’s filly, a daughter of Galileo, looks to have a decent chance of upsetting the market leaders from the John Oxx and Aidan O’Brien stables and is available at a very decent price of 9/2.

JOE’s Daily Double: Andy Murray to beat Jo Wilfried Tsonga 3-2 (5/1) and Dearest Girl (Fairyhouse, 9.00 @ 9/2)
