New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) are set to ban Vuvuzelas for the Rugby Union World Cup in 2011.

According to the Rugby World Cup website, “airhorns or sound amplifiers, including loudhailers” and “musical instruments” and “whistles” are prohibited from next year’s World Cup venues.

“We would be concerned about the potential for them to spoil the experience for fans at the stadiums,” Chief executive Bryan Pearson told New Zealand website The Press.

“Given the experience at the soccer World Cup, I can’t see that that sort of deafening drone is going to be in any way well received by fans at AMI Stadium.”

Vuvuluzelas have come into criticism throughout the World Cup, and RTE received numerous complaints about them from irate viewers.

JOE has also been critical of the horns.
