Six-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer has crashed out of this year’s tournament, losing at the quarter final stage to 12th seed Tomas Berdych.

Berdych, from the Czech Republic, defeated Federer on a scoreline of 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in just under three hours on centre court and consigned the Swiss to his first loss at Wimbledon since the 2008 final against Rafael Nadal.

Berdych’s victory means that this year will be the first time Federer has failed to reach the final at the All-England club since 2002.

Berdych will now face third seed Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals after the Serbian defeated Yen Hsun-Lu in straight sets.
