Is it all just false hope, or have we really turned a corner in recession Ireland?

“Recession is over but dole queues will continue to get longer,” reads the main headline in the Irish Times.

In fact, all of the major broadsheets echo the same CSO figures which confirmed yesterday that, “Ireland has officially emerged from recession,” as they put it in the Irish Independent.

Environment Minister John Gormley last night came under intense pressure to explain why a €350m project that would create 600 jobs is being held up while unemployment has risen to 13.4%.

The Irish Examiner spreads it nicely: “Recession over but…445,000 people out of work / Consumer spending falls / Business lending tightens / €350m decline in mortgages / House prices down by 2.8% / Further angry street protests.
