No World Cup matches and Wimbledon women’s semi-finals in which we have Serena Williams and three nobodies? We’ll stick to racing for Thursday’s daily double.
Sir Mark Prescott is perhaps the shrewdest trainer currently working in the racing game. His mastery at placement is legendary, something that the bookmakers have copped onto – when a Prescott horse is unfancied, it can go to post at 100/1 or greater, whereas when a big run is expected they routinely start as favourite.
The 4.10 at Yarmouth is a handicap for three-year-olds over nine furlongs and contains one with a typical Prescott profile. MME DE STAEL was sent off 16/1, 40/1, 100/1 and 150/1 for her four starts last season but a morning price of 3/1 for today’s race could even be value.
On this side of the Irish Sea, we’re going for another filly in KISSABLE in the first at Leopardstown.
Kissable shaped with promise on her debut at Limerick, staying on nicely in the straight having missed the break. Any softening of the ground should not inconvenience Kevin Prendergast’s charge, as she is a daughter of Kitty O’Shea, twice a winner on soft. She should come on a lot for her debut and unless one of the newcomers is a star in the making, Kissable should be able to open her account.
JOE’s Daily Double: Mme De Stael (Yarmouth, 4.10 @ 3/1) & Kissable (Leopardstown, 6.00 @ 11/10)
