Former Leinster and London Irish fly-half Barry Everitt announced his retirement from professional rugby today.

The Nenagh Tipperary native Everitt left Leinster in 2000 to joined London Irish, and scored 1,762 points for the Exiles in 169 matches.

He joined Northampton in 2007, but only played 29 times for the Guinness Premiership team.

The 34-year-old said: “I’ve been lucky to play with leading Irish provinces and two famous clubs in England.

“There comes a point when you have to look to the future beyond rugby and that time has arrived for me.”
