JOE’s Daily Double

Brazil-Holland is the one everyone's looking forward to but we're greedily looking ahead to Uruguay-Ghana and Beverley's evening meeting for Friday's bet.

JOE

All the World Cup focus will be on the afternoon meeting of five-time winners Brazil and Holland but for our bet on Friday we’re looking to the evening game between surprise quarter-final pairing Uruguay and Ghana.

Uruguay have made it this far despite struggling throughout South American qualifying, in which they finished in fifth place and needed a fortunate and controversial play-off win over Costa Rica to reach South Africa in the first place.

They’ve been excellent this far, however, conceding just one goal in their four games and boasting one of the most potent strike duos in LUIS SUAREZ and Diego Forlan. Between them, they’ve scored five of Uruguay’s six goals with Suarez scoring three of those.

So Paddy Power’s 7/2 about Suarez being Uruguay’s first goalscorer is the bet for us. The Ajax striker, who scored 35 league goals in Holland last season, has been one of the real name-makers of this World Cup and he can boost his transfer value again with another against a Ghanaian defence which has looked an accident waiting to happen at various stages during this tournament.

In racing, we’re going for PENDRAGON in Beverley’s 1m2f handicap at 7.55

Brian Ellison’s gelding has been running very well on his last few starts, just going down to Brushing in what was a decent contest at Carlisle last time. With conditional jockey Dale Swift taking off a valuable seven pounds, he should make a bold bid.

JOE’s Daily Double: Luis Suarez to score first for Uruguay (7/2) & Pendragon (Beverley, 7.55 @ 6/4)
