World number one Rafael Nadal proved far too strong for Tomas Berdych to win his second Wimbledon title on Sunday afternoon.
Nadal had been taken to five sets twice earlier in the tournament but found his form in the second week and having despatched Andy Murray in straight sets in the semi-final he repeated the trick against the Czech Republic star in the Centre Court showpiece.
Berdych had defeated six-time champion Roger Federer in the quarter-finals and number three seed Novak Djokovic in the last four on Friday, but had no real answer to Nadal’s power and precision in the final.
In the end, Nadal won out 6-3 7-5 6-4 in less than two-and-a-quarter hours to make it two Wimbledon titles in three years for the Spaniard, who missed last year’s tournament through injury.
The 24-year-old has now won eight Grand Slam titles, including five French Opens and an Australian Open crown.
