No World Cup matches? No problem, as we look at cricket and racing for Monday’s selections.

The growth in the phenomenon that is Twenty20 cricket continues apace with the meeting of Pakistan and Australia in an international at Edgbaston this evening.

The Aussies are without a few of their first choice bowling line-up but their batting looks strong, none more so than specialist Twenty20 opener SHANE WATSON.

Watson, whose highest T20 score of 81 came against Pakistan in May, has hit 19 sixes in 11 innings in the format this year. He’s also shown himself to be in decent form during last week’s One-Day International series against England, in which he averaged more than 40, so if he puts his best foot forward today he could easily be his side’s top runscorer, for which he’s 10/3 with Paddy Power.

On to racing and we like the look of MIRANDA’S GIRL in Roscommon’s fillies handicap at 7.00. Thomas Cleary’s five-year-old produced a fine effort on her reappearance, staying on well to be fourth behind Simla Sunset at the Curragh. She disappointed subsequently in a big field, also at the Curragh, but back in a less competitive race here she can fulfil the promise of her seasonal debut.

JOE’s Daily Double: Shane Watson (Australia’s top run-scorer v Pakistan @ 10/3) & Miranda’s Girl (Roscommon, 7.00 @ 11/2)
