Spurs ‘no’ to Celtic Robbie loan (but a sale could be on)

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has vetoed a possible second loan move to Celtic for Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane – but could be open to selling the Dubliner before the August transfer deadline.

Keane spent the second half of last season at Parkhead, scoring 16 goals in 19 appearances for the club.

That success, in a disappointing overall campaign for the Bhoys, raised the prospect of new Celtic manager Neil Lennon, who finished last season in charge in a caretaker capacity, making a move to bring Keane back to the club this summer.

However, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has dismissed the possibility of allowing his sometime skipper to leave White Hart Lane on loan again.

Redknapp said, “I wouldn’t think that’s a possibility, no, because we paid good money for him and to loan him out again, it wouldn’t be a goer.

“If Robbie’s not happy when the season starts and he’s not playing then we’ll sit down and discuss it. And if he wants to move, someone will have to buy him, but I’m hoping he comes back in to the team and makes a real impact.”
