Britain’s Mark Cavendish was victorious in the sixth stage of the Tour de France.
After a poor first four days, Cavendish took his second stage in a row in Gueugnon, winning by two clear bike lengths.
“Yesterday, I was really relieved, but today I am just really, really happy,” Cavendish said afterwards.
“I sat down in January and said that it is going to be a hard year but what matters is the Tour de France. I also said that I knew I was going to get criticism but I was not going to let that affect me.
“But I did let it affect it me. That is what makes it so special now.”
Cavendish is now only 33 points behind green jersey leader Thor Hushovd. Fabian Cancellara retains the yellow jersey, while Lance Armstrong is now over two minutes back in 18th.
