We have one eye on the Open Championship this weekend and the other on a two-year-old race at Lingfield for Wednesday’s daily double.
Sir Michael Stoute’s Apace is odds-on favourite for Lingfield’s six-furlong juvenile maiden at 4.00 on the back of its fourth place on debut at Newbury two weeks ago.
However, a golden rule in racing is to oppose short-priced two-year-olds on their second run in maidens so it’s best to take him on. (Just watch as Apace strides home with his head in his chest – Ed.)
The one we’ll go for is the unraced Kevin Ryan filly FORMIDABLE GIRL, who has big-race entries later in the season and comes from a stable boasting a fine record with juveniles.
Hopefully we can roll the winnings up onto STEVE STRICKER in the Top 5 Finish market.
There is a myth that Americans may not necessarily be the obvious choice at the Open but 11 of the last 15 championships have been won by Yanks. Stricker has finished seventh and eighth in two of the past three Opens and is a real birdie machine, which is a must around St Andrews, which has had two of the three lowest scoring Open totals of the past 10 years.
