Don’t take pity on us, no. We’ll keep soldiering on. In a desperate bid to end the losing streak we’ll maintain a golf-racing theme today.
In golf, the one we’re going with is the fantastically named South African CHARL SCHWARTZEL.
Schwartzel has won five times on the European Tour in the past and posted Top 30 finishes at both the Masters and US Open already this year. He took his time to warm to the St Andrews task on Thursday, dropping four shots in his first seven holes, but eventually found his rhythm and sank five birdies on the back nine to end the day under par.
With that experience behind him, he can do even better on Day 2 – he’s 5/4 to outshoot Ryan Moore and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano in his three-ball, which tees off shortly after 1pm.
Into racing and we’re having a look at the feature Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury (3.10). It’s an interesting little Listed event and we’re going for CAPE TO RIO to land another winner for Richard Hannon. The Captain Rio colt won his first two events before coming up just short in a Listed race at Sandown at the end of May.
He didn’t get the clearest of runs on that occasion and having been freshened up since, and with the step-up to six furlongs for the first time expected to be in his favour, he can land the odds for champion jockey Ryan Moore.
JOE’s Daily Double: Charl Schwartzel to win his three-ball (5/4) & Cape To Rio (Newbury, 3.10 @ 9/4)
