Donal Shine kicked ten points as Roscommon caused a massive upset to pip Sligo to the Connacht SFC title on Sunday afternoon.
The 21-year-old, who played a starring role in the Rossies’ famous All-Ireland minor success four years ago, kicked all but four of his side’s scores in a stirring provincial decider.
Roscommon, whose previous Connacht title came back in 2001, went into the game as rank outsiders due to Sligo’s impressive performances in despatching traditional big guns Mayo and Galway.
But with Shine in exceptional form, Roscommon pulled six points clear at one stage before Sligo clawed two back to leave four between them (0-10 to 0-6) at the change of ends.
The momentum seemed to shift Sligo’s way in the second half, with Alan Costello (pictured) striking three points from play, to add to his two before the break, to haul his side level.
However, Shine converted two late frees to see Roscommon home and spark unbridled celebrations from the thousands of Roscommon supporters who had made the trip to MacHale Park in Castlebar.
