Louis Oosthuizen posted a final round 71 to claim a seven-shot victory in the 150th anniversary Open Championship at St Andrews on Sunday.
Oosthuizen held a four-stroke lead at the start of the final day, with playing partner Paul Casey expected throw down the biggest challenge.
However, on a benign day on which low scores were possible Casey struggled to a three-over par 75 to finish tied for third, eight behind the South African who could afford a three-putt on the last hole for a 16-under par total of 272.
Lee Westwood was never in contention for outright honours but a two-under 70 secured him the runners-up position, with Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson joining Casey in a three-way tie for third.
US Open champion Graeme McDowell finished alongside Tiger Woods in a tie for 23rd on -3, Colm Moriarty and Shane Lowry were tied for 37th on -1 with Darren Clarke, who only qualified for the tournament with his performance at the Scottish Open last week, finishing on even par.
