Lock Andries Bekker is set to miss South Africa’s Tri-Nations clash with Australia in Brisbane on Saturday.

Bekker picked up an ‘acute disk injury’ in the Sprinboks’ 31-17 loss to the All-Blacks in Wellington.

“It is a setback but we will have to deal with it,” said manager Peter De Villiers.

“That is part of the game. We have to rely on the strength within our squad for the Test. It is a blow for Andries too as he was just coming back from a previous injury.”

There are no other major injury doubts for South Africa, and the only other player who should miss the game is the suspended Jean De Villiers.

“As expected there are a few niggles,” added the South African manager, “but it is good news for us that we came away from Wellington with just a single serious injury and can assemble a strong line-up for the Brisbane Test.”
