23/07 JOE’s Daily Double

We have racing from Thirsk and golf from Canada for our daily double on Friday afternoon.

JOE

It’s the second day of the Canadian Open golf tournament at St George’s in Toronto. The course is relatively short so plays to the strengths of the shorter, accurate hitters rather than the proponents of the booming drive.

KEVIN NA is up against one of the big hitters in John Daly and Indian star Jeev Milkha Singh, whose distance, accuracy and putting stats this year all leave a lot to be desired.

Na, who put in a solid performance at the British Open last weekend, was the best of the three in the opening round of the Canadian Open and we fancy him to outgun his three-ball rivals once more today.

In racing, we’re looking to the last at Thirsk, a low-grade five-furlong handicap, where KING OF SWORDS takes the eye.

Nigel Tinkler’s six-year-old won off a mark of 63 as recently as last September but enters the stalls off 55 today. Conditional jockey Nora Looby rode a 100/1 winner for Nigel Tinkler last month but King Of Swords will go off a much shorter price this evening, and could have the smarts to outpace this bunch.

JOE’s Daily Double: Kevin Na to win his three-ball at the Canadian Open (6/4) & King of Swords (Thirsk, 5.30 @ 11/2)
