Premier League champions Chelsea will fork out almost £50m to sign Benfica’s Brazilian duo David Luiz and Ramires, according to reports on Saturday morning.
Chelsea have virtually tied up a £20million deal for defensive midfielder Ramires, who impressed as Felipe Melo’s deputy in Brazil’s World Cup win over Chile last month.
Ramires, who left Cruzeiro for Benfica last summer, could be joined at Stamford Bridge by compatriot and fellow 23-year-old Luiz, who would cost in the region of £27million.
Luiz was ever present at centre half for the Eagles last season, while he can also play at left back.
The double-swoop would be a first real signal of intent from Chelsea this summer, with the club having signed just Yossi Benayoun and teenage defender Tomas Kalas since the end of last season.
