Manchester City are desperate to offload players, as they look to reduce their squad’s size to the required 25 before the start of the season.

City currently employ 37 players in their first-team squad, but new Premier League rules require teams to register a squad of a maximum of 25 players.

“I know that we must sell some players,” said manager Roberto Mancini, “because in 20 days we must have a list of 25 players. I am disappointed because some players must change teams now. It is difficult for them to play with us.”

Pablo Zabaleta, Nigel de Jong, Stephen Ireland (pictured), Roque Santa Cruz, Javier Garrido and Jo have all been linked with moves away.
