It’s the first day of the Galway Races, one of the year’s biggest festivals, and we have two selections from Ballybrit.

Gordon Elliott’s CABERNET SAUVIGNON carries some excellent form into the opening novice hurdle and provided the rain stays away this Dansili gelding can make it three wins from his last four starts.

Barry Geraghty takes the mount and while the selection has to concede eight pounds to favourite Fingal Rock, he looks to be on an upward curve and could have the necessary class to take another trip into the winners’ enclosure.

A little over an hour later we like the look of A WORD APART in the first two-year-old race of the festival. Dermot Weld is the man to follow every year at Galway and the Desert Style colt, who looked an unlucky loser at the Curragh last month, can land the spoils at the forecast short price.

JOE’s Daily Double: Cabernet Sauvignon (Galway, 5.10 @ 5/1) & A Word Apart (Galway, 6.20 @ Evens)
