A referee in a Chinese League match was attacked by an ‘emotional fan’ after showing two red cards in quick succession.
Wang Zhe showed Qiugdong’s Slovenian forward Aleksander Rodic a second yellow card for diving in the 67th minute before showing Croatian midfielder Stjepan Jukic a red card three minutes later for a bad tackle.
During a scuffle, a fan ran on to the pitch and proceeded to attack the referee and his linesman.
“The man was definitely not on the staff of our club. He was just an emotional fan,” Yu Tao, the general manager of Quigdao said. “The referee failed to control the game well – perhaps he was too young.”
After the match up to 100 hundred fans vandalised a car they believed belonged to Wang Zhe. Quigdao lost the match 2-0 to Shanghai Shenua.
