Liverpool fans let out a sigh of relief yesterday as Roy Hodgson revealed in a press conference that his star man plans to stay for at least another season.

When Hodgson was asked about the speculation surrounding Torres and Javier Mascherano, he confirmed that the Argentinean wished to leave, but that Torres had expressed no such desire.

“Fernando Torres has told us he wants to come back,” Roy Hodgson said yesterday. “He’s told us he’s looking forward to Monday and getting back to work and playing for us next season. That’s what we know and as far as I’m concerned, all others reports are erroneous.”

“He’s having a well-deserved break with his family,” Hodgson said. “He’s keeping a low profile and not really talking to anyone, but he has spoken to us.”

Torres has been targeted by big-spending Manchester City all summer, and his estimated value is £70 million.
