Olive Loughnane was this morning forced to withdraw from the final of the 20km walk at the European Athletics championships in Barcelona due to illness.
Louhgnane won a silver medal at last year’s world Championships in Berlin and was one of Ireland’s major medal hopes at this year’s competition.
The Cork athlete was suffering from a bug, however and withdrew from the race after only five kilometres.
