South Africa and Western Province lock Andries Bekker has been ruled out for the rest of the year with an injury to his back.
Bekker, who at six foot 10 is the tallest player to ever line-up for the Springboks, previously missed South Africa’s clash with Australia in the Tri-Nations.
“The injury is not career-threatening,†said Allister Coetzee, Bekker’s coach, at a press conference.
“It’s just a recurrence of an old back injury and it is the right time to have it sorted out.â€
Bekker, who is the son of former international Hennie Bekker, has 21 caps for South Africa.
