On an extremely quiet day of sport, today’s Daily Double is all horse racing and features tips from the evening meetings at Roscommon and Ffos Las.

Now that the Galway festival is done and dusted for another year, many fair-weather punters will be content to stay away from the track, but if you’re one of those who just couldn’t get enough at Ballybrit, there’s a meeting only over the road in Roscommon to keep you satisfied.

It takes our interest that trainer Charles Byrnes sends a rare runner to Roscommon this evening. The three-mile JF Hanley Handicap Hurdle at 6.45 will be the optimum trip for Third Level Tom with Niall ‘Slippers’ Madden on board. His only course win has come at this distance and he should travel well on suitable ground. Third Level Tom looks good value to us at 10/1.

With very little action across the board this Tuesday, we’re sticking with horse racing for our second tip of the day.

Tony McCoy has a good book of rides in this evening’s meeting at Ffos Las in Wales and should get off to a good start in the first race aboard Island Oscar at 6.05. This Class 4 Novices hurdle over 2 miles looks well-suited to Philip Roche’s six-year old in a fairly ordinary looking field and the Irish raider is in good form, having won over hurdles in Killarney back in May. Island Oscar is the favourite for this one and can be backed at even money.
