In today’s Daily Double, we’re putting our faith in a runner in the 4.40 at Pontefract and hoping that Manchester United’s newest recruit can do the business at the Aviva.

The Nicholls father/son partnership, Dandy and Adrian, have an interesting runner in the 4.40 at Pontefract which is never far away from the money and, in company like this, must go close once again.

ROYAL DIGNITARY is overpriced at 10/1 for the Class 4 event over one mile and the 10-year-old can get back to winning ways after a near miss in a seller at Hamilton and an off-day at Epsom last time out.

A star-studded Manchester United line-up will be in Dublin this evening for the first football game in the spanking new Aviva Stadium against an Airtricity League XI. If it wasn’t for the IRFU’s determination to stage a pretty meaningless rugby game there at the weekend, it would be the first game of any code to take place at the old Lansdowne Road, but that’s neither here nor there.

Alex Ferguson has yet to dip into the transfer market in any meaningful way this summer, but a signing he made months ago is beginning to look like a decent bit of business for the canny Scot. Javier Hernandez was an unknown quantity when signed by United in April, but after an impressive showing at the World Cup and some excellent cameos in pre-season, the man known as ‘El Chicharito’ looks like he could have a bright future at Old Trafford.

We fancy him to continue the excellent start he has made to his United career by netting the first goal against Damien Richardson’s side at the Aviva this evening. He can be backed at 7/2 to do so.

JOE’s Daily Double: Royal Dignitary (Pontefract 4.45 at 10/1) and Javier Hernandez to score the first goal in Manchester United’s clash with the Airtricity League XI at 7/2.
