Michael Owen could be in line for a shock move to Championship side Bristol City.

Robins manager Steve Coppell has been told that he can make a loan move for Owen, according to the Daily Mail.

The former European player of the year scored in Manchester United’s 7-1 victory over the Airtricity XI yesterday, but speculation is rife that he will not be among the 25 players given a squad number by Sir Alex Ferguson.

If the move goes through, Owen will become the second England international to join Bristol City this summer, following the capture of David James.

The 30-year-old has played 89 times for England, scoring 40 times.
