The FAI have confirmed that Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has been hospitalised.

Assistant manager Mario Tardelli will take temporary charge of the squad ahead of Ireland’s friendly against Argentina on Wednesday evening.

A statement on the FAI’s website read, “Giovanni Trapattoni has been feeling unwell since his arrival in Ireland on Sunday, suffering from nausea which he believes may have been caused by shellfish he ate before he left Italy.

“He has been looked after by the FAI team Doctor, Dr Alan Byrne who as a precautionary measure brought him to the Mater Hospital this morning at 3am after further vomiting.

“He is in a stable condition and is undergoing some tests this morning.”
