The Kilkenny hurlers have been dealt a major blow with the news that star forward Henry Shefflin will miss the All-Ireland hurling final through injury.
Shefflin underwent a scan today (Tuesday) and the Kilkenny County Board confirmed in a statement that the nine-time All-Star suffered a cruciate ligament injury to his left knee.
“Henry Shefflin’s injury has been confirmed as a cruciate ligament injury to his left knee,” said the statement from the Kilkenny County Board. “His previous cruciate injury was to his right knee.”
In better news for Cats’ supporters, the County Board also revealed that centre-half back Brian Hogan is expected to be fit for the decider on September 5 after a scan revealed that the injury sustained to his shoulder during Sunday’s game isn’t as serious as was originally feared.
“Brian Hogan’s shoulder injury is not as serious as first thought and with treatment he should be fit for the All Ireland final,†read the statement.
“Kilkenny County Board and all Kilkenny supporters wish both Henry and Brian all the best as they begin their recoveries.”
