We’re banking on Robbie Keane to mark the occasion of his 100th cap with the first goal at the Aviva and a hot favourite to come good at Gowran Park for today’s Daily Double.
The domestic racing this evening is in Kilkenny and we have a fancy for a delightfully-named horse in the 5.45 Handicap at Gowran Park.
SUNTAN was unlucky when finishing third behind eventual winner Hope of an Angel in Galway at the end of last month, when she was impeded and found the conditions difficult.
Jim Bolger’s filly was highly fancied for that one and with KJ Manning on board; she can make up for that disappointment in Kilkenny this evening.
In a field of seven runners, SUNTAN is the hot favourite and is available at 5/4 for the win.
Ireland take on Argentina in the first international at the brand new Aviva Stadium this evening and with Trap still suffering from a bout of food poisoning, the occasion of Robbie Keane’s 100th cap has been overshadowed somewhat.
Whatever about his club form throughout this career, Keane has been outstanding at international level and perhaps doesn’t always get the credit he deserves for a remarkable 12 year spell in an Irish jersey which has yielded an astonishing 43 goals so far. That’s more than double the amount of his closest challenger, Niall Quinn, who has 21 international goals to his name.
We think Robbie is a good bet to score the first goal of significance at the Aviva (we’re not counting last week’s non-match between Manchester United and the Airtricity XI) and he can be backed at 7/1 to do so.
JOE’s Daily Double: Suntan (Gowran Park 5.45 @ 5/4) and Robbie Keane to score the first goal in Ireland’s clash with Argentina @ 7/1.
