We’re banking on Graeme McDowell to win a star-studded three ball at the US PGA and a 13/2 shot at Chepstow for today’s Daily Double.
The US PGA kicks off at Whistling Straits today and while we’re loathe to predict an outright winner at this early stage, the extended betting markets allow punters to predict the winner of the various three-balls teeing off at Whistling Straits on the opening day.
The US PGA is unique in that the winners of the three majors of the year so far get the honour of playing the first round together, where they no doubt talk about what they did with their prize-money (Louis Oosthuizen bought a brand new tractor), what celebrities they mixed with (Graeme McDowell made a cameo appearance on the TV show Entourage) or the amount of burgers they treated themselves to afterwards (at least we suspect that’s what Phil Mickelson did when he won the Masters).
Anyway, with Mickelson suffering from psoriatic arthritis and failing miserably to take the World number one spot while Tiger Woods continued on the road to self-destruction at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational last weekend, we think McDowell is a good bet to come out on top on day one against Mickelson and Oosthuizen. They tee off at Whistling Straits at 7.35 Irish time.
McDowell to win that particular three-ball can be backed at 7/4.

The second half of today’s Daily Double focuses on a 13/2 shot at the evening meeting in Chepstow. POLAR ANNIE has history at the track, having won over seven furlongs last month. There are question marks over her ability over a greater distance, but she will be running downhill for much of the race and the conditions should suit her in a field of 11 runners in the Fillies’ Handicap at 6.20.
JOE’s Daily Double: Graeme McDowell to win opening day three-ball at the US PGA @ 7/4 and Polar Annie (6.20 Chepstow @ 13/2).
